National Immunization Awareness Month

Join us this August for National Immunization Awareness Month as we raises awareness and encourage everyone to make sure they are current on the necessary vaccinations for potentially harmful diseases.

Many diseases can be easily prevented by administering vaccines, and thus, protecting from unseen viruses. Vaccination protects children from serious illness and complications of many diseases, including amputation of an arm or leg, paralysis of limbs, hearing loss, convulsions, brain damage, and death.

Did you know that if your physical body is unwell, your mental health can also be in danger as well?

In fact, physical health problems significantly increase our risk of developing mental health problems, and vice versa.

Nearly one in three people with a long-term physical health condition also has a mental health problem, most often depression or anxiety.

In addition, some mental health problems can affect your energy or motivation to take care of yourself and can thus result in signifficantly downplaying the importance of vaccines for yourself and children.

You may also find it hard to arrange or attend medical appointments if your mental health problem affects your concentration

Yet, vaccinations are safe and effective! All vaccines undergo long and careful review by scientists, doctors, and the federal government to make sure they are safe.

We all have a public health obligation to our communities to protect ourselves as well as others from potential health risks. By getting vaccinated, we eliminate diseases before they have a chance to spread.

So we challenge you! This August, take the necessary precautions to protect your physcial health and thus your mental health with a simple call to your doctor about available vaccines, and avoid potential harm while leading a healthy, happy life.
